Brno, although the second-largest city in the Czech Republic, can be toured in a solid three days. In this post, I will share the unique attractions and spots I encountered during my three-week summer exchange experience in the colourful town with some dark history to inspire your visit!

1. Ossuary beneath the Church of St. James & the Labyrinth
Brno is popularly known for its underground historical sites, in particular, the Ossuary located beneath the Church of St. James and the Labyrinth. Also known as the second-largest ossuary in Europe, this site possesses the remains of over 50 thousand individuals dated back to the 17th Century (discovered in 2001).
You can purchase the two in one ticket for both the Labyrinth and the Ossuary for about 8 euros or CAD 11. It's a must-see attraction of Brno, located in the city centre, and is quite a morbid but unique instagrammable location. NOTE: You are allowed to take photos in the Ossuary with the remains (no flash).

2. Crash Rooftop Bar
Whilst studying in Central Europe, we adopted bar/pub culture. Throughout Brno, there are a multitude of rooftop bars (serving only drinks). Nightlife in Europe, even the smallest towns, is everlasting. Thus, I highly recommend taking the time to walk around, even if you're not a drinker (like me). The streets fill with music in the city centre and there are mini-concerts and dances around each corner. The experience of the atmosphere and Brno's nightlife is highly recommended!
My friend, Adele, and I spent the evening strolling through Brno centre, and near U Tomana (restaurant), we came across Crash Bar.
The bar is small, but the view is quite exquisite, and insta worthy. We caught golden hour whilst enjoying our drinks and spilling tea (standard for girls' night)!

3. Super Panda Circus Bar
This bar is located on the other end of the city square (about a 10-minute walk from Crash). I recommend a night of bar hopping and exploring the nightlife of the small town. Brno is incredibly safe as is the majority of Central Europe. But it is more enjoyable with company.
Super Panda Circus is very interesting as it is a "hidden bar." You will need to find it, and once you do, you ring the doorbell, and a host will greet you. We were quite delighted, the decor and vibe inside was incredible, however, we found the venue extremely small and a little suffocating. It is suggested that you only go in groups of three to four due to minimal space and seating options.
The bar is also a bit more expensive compared to other locations. There is no menu and the drinks are all surprises. (Just be sure to let the server know your budget).

4. Nuclear Shelter 10-Z
The Nuclear Bomb Shelter is located right across from Super Panda Circus Bar (just outside the city centre). The shelter was originally built by the Germans during WWII and was later to protect 600 elites (including politicians and celebrities). As it was never used, the shelter now serves as a museum, restaurant, and hostel.
This location makes for another unique insta-upload!

5. Brno City Centre!
Brno City Centre is almost entirely instagrammable, consisting of colourful eateries, main hubs, architecture, tourist attractions, underground sites, main squares, all within one circular centre. Enjoy exploring shops, cafes offering a myriad of lemonades, live music, arts, and architecture.
The majority of the attractions are also free or of a minimal entrance fee. Clearly, I didn't take enough insta photos of myself :( Another excuse to return soon.
