This post will transport you to the colourful and multicultural island-capital of Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. With the city's thriving culture and heritage, remarkable nature, food hubs, and lifestyle, Penang awaits your visit to unwind and explore!

Start with Art - Penang Street Art

The UNESCO World Heritage Site features famous graphic street art depicting the life of locals in Penang. Penang Street Art can be found in the corners and alleys of the old town between the colonial-built heritage and food festivals, worthy of the quirky Instagram shots! I would recommend taking a trishaw tour and asking the driver to take you to all the spots or simply coming across them during your stroll.
Take a Heritage Tour

During our trip, we booked a 3-hour Heritage Tour including a Trishaw ride via GetYourGuide. I highly recommend this as it offers an authentic way to experience the heritage locations situated in Penang. The guide picked us up early in the morning, and we drove to various temple sites, followed by a walking and trishaw ride tour of Old Town.
We learned about the backgrounds of top historical attractions, visiting Fort Cornwallis, Penang Town Hall, Beach Street, Khoo Kongsi, and Acheh Street, Kapitan Keling Mosque, the Goddess of Mercy Temple, Little India, the Clan Jetties, and many more!
Batu Ferringhi Beach

Batu Ferringhi is a beach resort about 40 minutes northwest of George Town and is a must-visit site! The beach is public and is popular for affordable water sports, seafood and street restaurants, and a seafront night market.
Penang Hill Train
Penang Hill Train, opened in 1923, is a unique must-visit site comprising a one-section funicular railway climbing 258ft steeply up Penang Hill, similar to a lift but in the form of a train! Photos and videos do not do this experience justice, and the train is quite a crowded site, so best to visit earlier in the day.

After a scenic ride to the top of the Hill, attractions to explore include the Habitat, an Owl Museum, a Skywalk, colonial architecture, a resort, an ornate temple, a mosque, and many more!
Play with Butterflies at Entopia Butterfly Farm
Entopia Butterfly Farm is a contemporary interactive indoor/outdoor space offering live butterfly exhibitions as well as other insects and reptile workshops. The farm is located just a little further north of Batu Ferringhi and offers a beautiful experience to interact with the delicate species.
